Back to School Math and Literacy Centers

School is just around the corner and I have prepared a COMPLETE back to school set that you will totally love!  All activities that you need to get your kids and students to be in the mood for exploring, learning, and practicing their fine motor skills are included in this set of preschool activities.  There are 30 activities in this set, all engaging and encourages hands-on learning.  I am sharing a few activities here so you will have a better idea of what you will be expecting from our BACK TO SCHOOL PACK.

Back to School Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Materials

UPPERCASE AND LOWERCASE LETTER PATTERN BLOCKS

Who doesn’t love pattern blocks? My boys love them! So I added these letter pattern block guides in our pack.  It includes both the uppercase and lowercase letters so the children will have the option to work with either set of letters.

UPPERCASE AND LOWERCASE LETTER PATTERN BLOCKS

I printed our set in 4 PAGES PER SHEET to use as cards and place all the blocks in a basket so the kids can easily find the patterns.

Some of the benefits of this activity include learning how to copy patterns, identifying shapes, and being able to form uppercase and lowercase letters.

DOUGH SHAPED MATS

Yes, playdough is always in our learning packs because kids love playdough.  Because this is a “back to school” pack, the shapes are placed in a chalkboard style mat.  I love how the end product looks because of the contrast of colors.

DOUGH SHAPED MATS

The playdough shapes are spot on.  It’s so easy for the kids to follow and create the shapes.

DOUGH SHAPED MATS

I printed this material in two pages per sheet to make it a little bit smaller.  You can still opt to print this material in one page per sheet for a bigger mat.

COUNTING AND SORTING CRAYONS

My kids said that this is “super cute”.  They love this sorting of crayons activity.  If you have enough crayons at home, you can use real ones but since we don’t, I printed these materials from the back to school learning pack instead and it made a fun counting and sorting activity.

COUNTING AND SORTING CRAYONS

The crayon boxes are labelled with numbers and colors so the child will know what crayon to place in it.

PAINT PALETTE COLOR GRADING

Another fabulous activity that’s included in our back to school learning material is the ordering of color grades in paint palettes.  Basically, the child will order the color chips from light to dark and place the color grades to their correspondence paint palettes.

PAINT PALETTE COLOR GRADING

This is quite a challenging work, but fun!  My son said, it needs a lot of concentration and a good eyesight to identify the correct color arrangement.

I made the boys work on this separately and they both enjoyed it!

PENCIL NUMBER REPRESENTATIONS

A new approach to our number representations.  The aim of this activity is for the child to identify the different representations of the number written in the upper part of the pencil (eraser).

PENCIL NUMBER REPRESENTATIONS

You can either mark all the counts that represents the number written in the eraser of the pencil, or mark the one that doesn’t belong.  In this activity Vito is using wooden pegs to mark the symbols that represents 1, 2, and 3.  We love using pegs, they're great for enhancing pincer grasp (a skill utilized in holding a pen).

PLAYDOUGH CVC FAMILY SORTING ACTIVITY

A simple activity on sorting out CVC words according to their word families.  Each family has 3 CVC words and color coded for control.

TELLING TIME LEARNING ACTIVITY

My son loves reading the time so just like in all our units, there’s always a reading time activity.

NUMBER AND TEN FRAMES MATCHING ACTIVITY

This is an activity for matching number symbols with their corresponding ten frames.

NUMBER AND TEN FRAMES MATCHING ACTIVITY

Because we own a lot of manipulatives at home, I always include them in our counting activities for a hands-on approach.  If you don’t have snap cubes or blocks at home, use LEGO pieces, rocks or anything that the child can count.  Just be sure to supervise especially when working with younger kids as they tend to mouth objects.

UPPERCASE AND LOWERCASE MATCHING

I love the end result of this matching activity.  Someone really made these cute pencil letters and I couldn’t resist including them in our back to school set!

UPPERCASE AND LOWERCASE MATCHING

Vito had fun making the letter sounds while working on these puzzles.

NUMBER SEQUENCE PUZZLES

Speaking of puzzles, this one is also a favorite.  I added 11-20 counts in this set to try with Vito the “counting from 11” activity.  He is still quite confused, asking for number 1. I told him that in this activity we are counting from 11.  This is a great activity for children in helping them to learn to count with numbers greater than 10.

There are 4 sets of puzzles for each count of 1-5,1-10 and 11-20, more than enough for your kids to work on.

KIDS EMOTIONS LEARNING ACTIVITY

Because kids will be interacting with a lot of children in school, it is vital that they are able to identify emotions and to be sensitive to the feelings of others.  I added this activity so my little one and I can discuss that at home and prepare him for school.

KIDS EMOTIONS LEARNING ACTIVITY

This is a simple activity of sorting kids' faces and identifying their emotions but you can do extension work  by discussing these emotions to your child.  With Vito, I asked him what’s his face when he is mad, sad, scared, etc.  He had fun making faces and we also talked about what he'll do when someone is sad, hurt, happy, or mad.
